Christopher Taylor stands out as an innovative musician with
a diverse array of talents and interests (including a summa
cum laude mathematics degree from Harvard). One of those
interests was in rebuilding the only dual-manual Steinway
in existence (known as the Steinway–Moór Concert
Grand). Built in the late 1920s and housed at the University
of Wisconsin, where Taylor is a professor of piano, the
restoration was completed by Steinway in 2007 and marked
the beginning of a new stage in the instrument’s life. Mondavi
Center audiences will recall Taylor’s jaw-dropping Mondavi
Center performances of Messiaen’s Vingt Regards in 2008; he
brings his prodigious talent and the unique Steinway-Moór
to perform Bach’s Goldberg Variations in their entirety. |
