Lara Downes, piano
From the classic story created by the inimitable Dr. Seuss comes the whimsical Gertrude McFuzz and her one-feathered tail. Following a sold-out run of the gleefully charming Green Eggs and Ham, Lara Downes will be joined in Jackson Hall by the entire Davis High School Orchestra, and Mondavi Center Young Artists winner soprano Anush Avetisyan and girl soprano Lily Linaweaver, to tell the story of the girl-bird who learns to like herself just as she is, presented in a delightfully lively musical style combining jazz, pop and classical influences. With music by Rob Kapilow and direction by Mindy Cooper, this will be a grand afternoon of entertainment for young and old alike. The program also includes selections from the timeless favorite Carnival of the Animals, performed by members of the Davis High School Orchestra, and a guest appearance by 10-year-old violin virtuoso Alex Zhou, a favorite of Mondavi Center audiences since his astounding performance at the Jackson Hall taping of NPR's From the Top in 2012. |
