Join us on a journey that begins in Boston with the music of William Billings—one of the fathers of American choral music—then traverses the mountains and plains to the heartland of America's great heritage of choral singing. The program will include folk songs, traditionals, Shaker tunes, Randall Thompson's stunning setting of "Alleluia," American spirituals in brilliant arrangements by Moses Hogan, and works by contemporary and popular composers Eric Whitacre and Morten Lauridsen. We will also give the first performance of graduate student Garrett Shatzer's piece for piano and chorus, The Lesson. |
