Chicago Tribune

In the tradition of Etta James and Aretha Franklin comes Shemekia Copeland—a dynamo of heartfelt R&B authenticity. The daughter of Texas blues guitarist Johnny Copeland, Shemekia grew up in Harlem and appeared at the Cotton Club as a child with her father. Now with a skyrocketing career of her own, Shemekia is the hit of blues festivals worldwide. Her Grammy-nominated, blast-furnace voice has earned acclaim in all the major music publications. If you haven’t heard of Shemekia Copeland yet, it’s about time.
