A legend in American dance, Merce Cunningham is still a vitally creative force at age 89. From his roots as a soloist in the company of Martha Graham through his groundbreaking work with John Cage right up to his contemporary experiments with iPod technology and audience participation, Cunningham has spent more than 50 years on the cutting edge. For these Mondavi Center performances, the company will bring works that incorporate Cunningham’s signature use of chance procedures, as in Split Sides, in which a roll of the dice determines which of five different costumes, décor, and music are incorporated in each piece.
