The SFJAZZ Collective brings together some of the world’s most talented musicians to honor and advance the work of a true jazz legend. Their focus in 2010 is the mighty pianist Horace Silver, a beloved bandleader with a lean, funky style that influenced generations of jazz musicians since the early 1950s. 2010 marks a major evolution in the Collective’s personnel, with the debuts of Mark Turner (tenor saxophone), Avishai Cohen (trumpet) and Edward Simon (piano), the return of Stefon Harris (vibraphone) and continuing members Miguel Zenón (alto saxophone), Robin Eubanks (trombone), Matt Penman (bass), and Eric Harland (drums). These are some of the most exciting young musicians in jazz and their joyous celebration of Horace Silver’s many contributions should not be missed. |
