The ensemble-in-residence at UC Davis, Empyrean presents engaging, thought-provoking, eclectic programs, enabling audiences to experience new musical sensations delivered with high artistry by its extraordinary core players—the finest new music performers in California. Program Two features ensemble members Ellen Ruth Rose, viola; Chris Froh, percussion; Tod Brody, flute; and the following works:

  • Laurie San Martin: Dawn Song for flute and marimba*
  • Pablo Ortiz: The Viola in the Motorcycle Boy's Life*
  • John MacCallum: El Árbol de la Noche Triste for viola and electronics*
  • Wayne Peterson: Pas de Deux (2006) for flue/alto flute and marimba/vibraphone
  • John Cage: Music for ________ (1984–87) with flute, viola, and percussion

*World premiere, written for the Empyrean Ensemble.
