Patti Smith

Patti Smith
Wednesday, May 9, 2012 - 8:00pm
Billed the "Godmother of Punk" by The New York Times, Patti Smith has outgrown that tag many times over. An accomplished songwriter, her debut album Horses was a landmark achievement fusing punk rock and poetry. Since then, Smith has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, named a Commander of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Minister of Culture and won the 2010 National Book Award for her memoir Just Kids, which brilliantly captures her lifelong friendship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. For her first Mondavi Center appearance, Smith will speak about her life, the creative process, innovation and artistic expression.

Q&A Session
Moderated by Christopher Reynolds, Professor and Chair, Department of Music, UC Davis.
