Out of Many, One: In the Spirit of John Paul depicts a concert event celebrating the peace-loving legacy of Pope John Paul II, his close connection to Chicago and what he meant to Chicagoans of all faiths. The musical portion of the film, featuring the Chicago Symphony Chorus and Lyric Opera Orchestra under Sir Gilbert Levine, was filmed at Symphony Center in April. Musical selections include Bogurodzica, an Ancient Polish Hymn; Edward T. Cone’s Psalm 91; J.S. Bach’s Magnificat in D; and Beethoven’s Third Symphony 3 “Eroica.”

The filmed concert is the first time that constituent ensembles of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Lyric Opera of Chicago have ever performed together. It also represents the PBS debuts of both the CSO Chorus and the Lyric Opera Orchestra. Interwoven with Levine’s insightful commentary are segments shot at various places of worship and Chicago cultural landmarks.
