Widely regarded as one of the world’s leading orchestras, the London Symphony Orchestra makes its Jackson Hall premiere. This international debut also marks a warm return for Michael Tilson Thomas as conductor and brilliant pianist Yuja Wang. Thomas and Wang will be familiar partners to Mondavi Center orchestra fans—their previous performance together with the San Francisco Symphony in May 2009 was a stunning reading of Prokofiev’s Second Piano Concerto. Here, the program includes Shostakovich Concerto No 1 for Piano, Trumpet and Strings, Britten’s Four Sea Interludes and Sibelius’s Second Symphony.

Britten Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes, Op. 33a
Shostakovich Concerto No. 1 for Piano, Trumpet and
Strings in C Minor, Op. 35
Sibelius Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 43
