Altan & Lúnasa with Tim O’Brien

St. Patrick’s Day celebration
Altan & Lúnasa with Tim O’Brien
Thursday, March 17, 2016 - 7:00pm
When West Virginia native, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Tim O’Brien listens to bluegrass, he hears the music’s roots in Irish ballads and vintage swing. Altan, the Irish traditional band from Donegal, recently released The Widening Gyre, recorded in Nashville with collaborations between masters of American roots music including O’Brien and Mary Chapin Carpenter, among others. Lúnasa continues to steer Irish acoustic music into surprising new territory. Combined with their inventive arrangements and bass-driven grooves, the band’s blend of intelligence, innovation, virtuosity and passion have brought them to the forefront of Celtic music. This trio of powerhouse artists from both sides of the Atlantic explores the deep and ancient bond shared between Irish and American traditional music.
