Virtuoso organist Cameron Carpenter brings his effortless technique
and musical imagination to bear in a short recital program followed
by a live improvised scoring of the 1920 silent horror film The Cabinet of
Dr. Caligari. Thought to be the first true horror film (and with a twist
ending, no less), Caligari provides a perfectly macabre inspiration
for Carpenter’s wicked musical gift. Carpenter’s second performance
at the Mondavi Center also marks the long-anticipated debut of the
portable, digital International Touring Organ. Built by digital organ
wizards Marshall & Ogletree of Needham, MA, Carpenter spent the
last decade designing the instrument to allow him to take his talents
(and sound) to any venue in the world.
