Carl Theodor Dreyer’s acclaimed silent film La Passion de Jeanne d’Arc (1928) is recognized as one of the finest films ever made. The film, famous for its vivid close ups of actress Renée Jeanne Falconetti and stark realism, depicts the trial and execution of Joan of Arc, that great French warrior, who was burned at the stake in 1431 and ultimately canonized. The acclaimed British a cappella group, The Orlando Consort, has assembled a soundtrack of vocal music that comes from the period of St. Joan’s brief life, providing a perfect setting for this masterpiece of cinema.
