It takes music stands and artistic discipline to keep the members of Mucca Pazza from bounding out of their seats and into the audience. This composers collective emerged from the thriving Chicago underground music scene and draws inspiration from Ellington, Esquivel and Zappa. Combining marching band traditions and street theater spectacle with rock and roll sensibilities and a high level of musicianship, Mucca Pazza performances will surely incite future and former band geeks to rescue instruments from dust bunnies, lockers and local pawn shops. Given the fact this show drops on April Fools’ Day, all should be prepared for hijinks of the first order.
A brilliantly calculated mondo-bizarro dementia, and liberal amounts of humor.
