One of the most recognizable voices in Punjabi music, Amrinder Gill is a firm favorite with a new generation of music fans. His breakthrough track "Paigham" established him as a voice of the future, and he has gone from strength to strength with tracks like "Daaru," "Madhaania," "Khedan De Din" and the colossal hits "Mail Kara de" and "Dildarian." His mix of folk-rooted songs and up-tempo dance tunes draw on the production skills of "The Music Man" Sukshinder Shinda.
South Asia Punjabi Studies: The South Asia region is the new vibrant center of global transformation, carrying with it the hopes and challenges of a fourth of humanity. It encompasses the tremendous richness of regional cultures and peoples in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Afghanistan, and the Maldives and their overseas communities. The Amrinder Gill concert is the kick off event for an exciting array of South Asia public events at UC Davis this year that shed light on the region in all of its diversity with a special focus on Punjabi culture. Proceeds from the concert will help establish a Punjabi Language and Culture Endowed Fund in the Middle East/South Asia Studies Program. UC Davis is the natural home for a Punjabi Language & Culture Program due to our academic excellence, large student and alumni base of Punjabi heritage, and close proximity to the historic Punjabi pioneer communities. Come enjoy the concert and help launch Punjabi Studies at UC Davis!
