For more than 30 years, music director Pavel Kogan has developed the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra into an orchestra with power, personality and presence. All that will be on display in the two featured pieces, Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece, the “Pathetique” symphony, premiered just a week before the composer’s death; and Grieg’s only completed piano concerto, performed by Vadym Kholodenko, winner of the 2013 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.

Sergei Prokofiev          Overture on Hebrew Themes

Edvard Grieg                Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op. 16

Peter Tchaikovsky      Symphony No. 6 in B Minor (Pathetique), Op. 74

“Tchaikovsky’s music is always an emotional roller coaster ride, and the orchestra, under its longtime conductor, Pavel Kogan was up to every nuance from the almost imperceptible quiet passages to the fullest, overwhelming climax.” -The Daily News
