Ballet Preljocaj

In La Fresque, artistic director Angelin Preljocaj continues his exploration of fairy tales, plunging the audience into the fantastical world of Pu Songling’s “The Painted Wall.”  The ideas of illusion, transcendence and the place of art in today’s society are omnipresent in this contemporary adaptation for 10 dancers.

Mayumana

One of Israel’s leading cultural exports, Mayumana combines custom-made musical instruments, massive video art projections and performers in constant motion. Currents is inspired by the historic “Battle of Currents” between Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla in their quest to find new energy sources for the world.

With his sextet, Vijay Iyer makes a fascinating leap into ensemble writing that takes advantage of a powerful lineup (cornetist Graham Haynes, drummer Tyshawn Sorey, saxophonists Steve Lehman and Mark Shim and bassist Stephan Crump) veering between tight horn lines, grooves and moments of atmospheric elegance. 

Vladimir Feltsman, piano

Pianist and conductor Vladimir Feltsman is one of the most versatile and commanding musicians of our time. Following his 2018 performance (focused on the work of Bach, Beethoven and Chopin), this second performance of the project will focus on the work of Schumann and Brahms.
