An Evening with Itzhak Perlman - Mondavi Center - Jan 11, 2020

Itzhak Perlman visits the Mondavi Center for an evening of stories and music. While his sold-out recitals at the Mondavi Center have been delighting local audiences for more than a decade, this evening will be a new multimedia experience with Perlman sharing stories of his life and career (with a microphone), and performing with his longtime pianist Rohan De Silva.

Badlands - Focus on Film - Mondavi Center at UC Davis - Jan 12, 2020

This year’s Focus on Film series presents three films that coordinate with the Campus Community Book Project’s theme of gun violence. The second in the series is the landmark film Badlands. Loosely based on a true story, Badlands is often cited by film critics as one of the greatest and most influential films of all time.

Norwegian pianist Tord Gustavsen creates lyrical, stripped-down music that is deceptive in its simplicity. On his recent album, The Other Side, Gustavsen returns to the piano trio setting, expanding its repertoire with new compositions as well as arrangements of J.S. Bach chorales and traditional Scandinavian hymns.

Israeli-born Pinchas Zukerman leads the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra as both conductor and violin soloist in a program featuring Bruch’s violin concerto and Brahms’ first symphony, a piece the composer labored over for 14 years as he wrestled with the impact of Beethoven.
